Photographing families can be a very rewarding (and sometimes chaotic) way of spending a Saturday afternoon. The idea that I can play a part in immortalizing a small glimpse into a family’s lives through images gives this kind of work a degree of job satisfaction not often found in other kinds of shoots. With this firmly in mind, and well pickled in vitamin B supplements, I set off to photograph the Parsons family a few weeks ago.
I have, in fact, photographed the Parsons before. At the time they were one fewer, with only the boys, Jet and Finn, challenging my stamina and quick focus abilities. This time round we set aside a couple of hours on a balmy late summer afternoon to try and make a few keepsakes.
The time went by in a flash, and despite not a few bramble scratches and quite a lot of mud and dust in unlikely places, the results turned out much to my (and hopefully their) liking. The three young ones, the boys having been joined by little sister Leah, proved to be a charming, energetic, and mostly cooperative bunch, while parents Wendy and Andrew struck a perfect balance between managing the kids and getting into the flow of things.
All in, it was a most enjoyable afternoons work, and I thanks the Parsons family for allowing me to help them make some memories!
Now if I could just get my own kids to tolerate me poking a camera in their faces a bit more…
